Overview Table

DOM Interface HTMLTitleElement

Examples

This example uses the TITLE element to specify a title for the document.

HTML

<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<title> WebPlatform.org - Your Web, documented </title>
</head>
</html>

Usage

Every HTML document must have a TITLE element in the HEAD section.

You can only have one title element on your page. This tag is mandatory. If you omit it the document will not validate as HTML

Notes

Remarks

  • defines a title in the browser toolbar
  • provides a title for the page when it is added to favorites
  • displays a title for the page in search-engine results

Authors should use the TITLE element to identify the contents of a document

It can only contain text and any contained tags are not interpreted.

To set the title programmatically using script, use Document.title instead of setting the innerHTML property of the title object. For more information, see BUG: Script Fails to Change the Document Title of a Web Page.
